Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the Cycle-Check?

The Cycle-Check is our prototype product which provides valuable insights into your menstrual health, via analysis of your menstrual cycle, menstrual-related symptoms and your menstrual blood.

The Cycle-Check will help you better understand your individual menstrual cycle, understand why your menstrual blood looks the way it does, and inform you on specific ways that you can take action to better manage your menstrual-related symptoms.

  • What do I need to do for the Cycle-Check?

You will receive your Cycle-Check kit in the post after purchasing, which will include step-by-step instructions of what to do.

    In short:

    1. You need to activate your kit by scanning the QR code. This will lead you to a short questionnaire that will ask you about your menstrual cycle and any menstrual-related symptoms that you experience.

    2. Use a menstrual cup to collect your menstrual blood sample, and pour it into the tube provided.

    3. Send your sample back to us, with the return shipping label provided in the kit.

    4. Once we have received your sample and done the “Check”, you will receive your personalised report via email.

  • How long will it take to get my Cycle-Check report?

As soon as we have received your menstrual blood sample via post, you will receive your personalised Cycle-Check report within 1-2 business days. We do aim to get the report to you as quick as possible. Please bear in mind that depending on where you shipped the sample from, it could take up to four business days for us to receive the sample. If you have not received your report within 1 week of sending your sample, please contact customer support.

  • I have never used a menstrual cup before, do I need to use one?

We recommend using a menstrual cup to collect your menstrual blood, as it is the easiest way to collect it and pour it into the tube provided in the kit. A menstrual cup is not provided, but these can be purchased from most drug stores and pharmacies, and even from our shop. If you are unsure on how to use a menstrual cup, be sure to read the instructions provided by the manufacturer before use, and check out our article - The Ultimate Guide to Menstrual Cups.

  • Can I do the Cycle-Check when I do not have regular periods?

Yes. To do the Cycle-Check, you just need to send us a menstrual blood sample from whenever you do menstruate.

  • I am unsure what to do.

If you have any questions or concerns that have not already been addressed here, please feel free to contact us directly. We will try to get back to you as soon as possible.

  • What will happen to my menstrual blood sample?

For the Cycle-Check, once we receive your menstrual blood sample, we will “Check” it. This involves characterising it based on physical attributes such as colour. As soon as we have the information that we need, your sample will be destroyed and discarded. Your menstrual blood will not be used for any other purpose other than for the Cycle-Check.

No laboratory analysis will be conducted with your menstrual sample, including no biomarker analysis.

  • How is my data privacy ensured?

Ensuring your data privacy is very important to us. All sensitive health data we obtain is stored and handled in a manner that complies with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

All data obtained will be anonymised, and will not be shared with any third-party companies. Upon request, you can receive information regarding your data, correct your data or ask for data to be deleted.

You can find out more in our Data Protection page.

  • You've mentioned a menstrual blood test measuring biomarker levels, how can I do this?

We are currently in the process of developing a menstrual blood test that will enable you to measure certain biomarker levels, using your menstrual blood, but it is not ready… just yet.

Bringing such a product to market involves conducting clinical studies, and lab validation procedures needed to prove and ensure that menstrual blood can be used reliably, in a comparable manner to other widely-accepted fluids like venous serum and capillary blood.
